Feel the day.

Isn’t it funny how each day of the week seems different from the other? Monday feels like Monday and Friday feels like Friday…..

Mondays are sometimes met with dread; dreading the workweek; starting back on the weekly routine. Whereas Fridays feel so good. It’s the end of the week and the start of the weekend. Most everyone looks forward to Fridays.

Every day is a gift from God. None of us are promised tomorrow. I’ve grown in my faith to learn that I don’t take one day for granted. My goal each day is to please God. How do I do this? I give Him my time. I start each day reading from His word. This may sound boring to you, but it’s my lifeline. It teaches me how to go about my day; how to serve others and how to serve God.

How about you? How does today feel to you? Is it just another day you’re trying to get through, or are you genuinely grateful?

Start each day with God and watch things change. Instead of just living by the way you feel, try living for God.

God tells us in the Bible to not worry about tomorrow. Live today with God in your heart and on your mind. He alone can give you an abundant life. How do I know? I’m living it!

Matthew 6:31-34 - “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Prophecy

Bible prophecy is not given to scare us, but to prepare us. If you’re a Christian, then you know what the Bible speaks of when it talks about the rapture.

Mark Hitchcock wrote this about the rapture:
“The rapture of the church is that future event when Jesus Christ will descend from Heaven to resurrect the bodies of departed believers and to transform and translate the bodies of living believers immediately into the glorious presence in a moment of time and then escort them to Heaven to live with Him forever.”

Knowing about the rapture brings us hope, for those who believe.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 - “For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.”

Prophesy is synonymous with forecasting, foretelling the future. The Bible is full of prophesy. Preachers speak of prophesy all the time.

The prophetic words regarding the rapture is not to scare you into becoming a Christian. Rather, it is to prepare you for what happens next.

This world as we know it will end some day. I don’t know about you, but I’d like to know where my final resting place will be. I do know that Heaven is my future home. Will it be yours?

Don’t be scared about the future, be prepared for it.

Mascot

Growing up, our small town high school mascot in Kermit, West Virginia was a ‘Bluedevil.’

Every team has their own mascot, but secretly, I always wanted my mascot to be an Angel.

Did you know that there are two types of real angels? God has His angels, but Satan also has his.

God’s angels watch over us in many ways. I think that there are many lost loved ones who God appoints as our guardian angels. Although we love the thought of God’s angels watching over us, we must not dismiss the fact that the devil has his angels working overtime, trying to distract us and destroy our belief in God.

I pray that God’s angels are watching over you today.

Get on God’s team. I like the thought of God’s angels as my mascot. How about you?

Psalms 91:11 - “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;”

Pulling the emergency button.

I just read a statistic that over 2000 people die a day from depression, but you really don’t hear anyone talking about it.

My heart goes out to the millions around the world who are battling this horrible disease.

Depression can creep into your life slowly and before you realize it, you find yourself in panic mode.

You just want to pull the emergency button and have it all go away.

I know. I’ve been there. But, as I’ve grown in my faith, I know there’s someone to go to in times of trouble. Someone that can calm me. His name is Jesus.

When Jesus lived on earth, He experienced some of the same things, and because of who He is, we can go to Him at any time and ask for help.

He’s asking us ahead of time to give Him our burdens and He will carry them.

No need to pull the emergency button today; turn to the one who cares for you. Jesus.

Give your life, your burdens to Jesus and you’ll find panic a thing of the past.

Luke 11:9-10 - So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Fear makes us forgetful.

There are many things to be fearful about, especially now. Fear of the future. Fear of the virus. Fear of the unknown.

Fear strikes everyone at some point. I’ll admit, I’m anxious about our country’s future. I’m concerned about the many people that are out of work. But, there’s one thing I’m not fearful of and that’s my future. God has a plan for me and I trust Him. Not because I can see into the future or have some magic ball. It’s because I’m confident that my life is safely in His hands and no one or nothing can take that away from me.

I haven’t forgotten all the times God has rescued me; all the mercy given, just at the right time.

Don’t let fear cripple you. Don’t allow the enemy to take away your confidence in Christ.

God has promised me a home in heaven some day, and I stake my life on that promise. I know that I will have problems here, but He’s never more than a breath away, and He never breaks a promise.

Don’t let fear make your forget the promises of God.

Hebrews 10:35-36- “So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.”

Deal maker, or deal breaker?

In business, there are agreements that have to be made; plans that must be established; boundaries that are apparent. To be successful you have to be honest, and compromises will inevitably need to take place. There are certain situations that hinder progress. If your contract specifies certain tasks to be completed before signing and there is dishonesty from the other person, this could be a deal breaker.

As a Christian, we don’t make ‘deals’ with God. We shouldn’t be saying to God, “if you give me this, then I’ll do this.” This is not the way it works.

God loves His children and wants the best for them. But, just as any parent will tell you, I don’t make deals with my kids; they know the rules. If a rule is broken, justice will need to be served. If you follow my rules, then everything runs smoothly.

We’re also not robots. Christians don’t just go by rules and live their life trying not to break them. We obey. Why? Because we know the ‘deal maker.’ I don’t just read the Bible because I know it pleases God. I read the Bible to learn more about Him. I love learning about how He loves us, and how He blesses us.

God is the creator of the universe. He knows the end of our story. He’s not out to make a deal with you, but He will show you His love, His power and His mercy, if you let Him.

Follow God. No excuses.

John 10:27 - “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

Screen time? How about Bible time?

There’s a setting on my phone which lets me know how much screen time I used on a particular day. Scary thought sometimes. I mean, you don’t even realize how much you’re looking at your phone.

Two weeks ago I took time off of Facebook. I had all my posts scheduled to load on my website daily and avoided Facebook altogether. It was nice, heavenly actually. I also took a week off of watching the news. Instead of turning on the news as I usually did when getting ready for work, I turned on some worship music. It was a good break, and it has shown me that I should be filling my mind with good stuff, and not Facebook gossip, bad news reports and just plain junk all the time.

Having less screen time has also shown me that filling your mind with good God stuff, just makes the day a lot easier.

If we all spent the same amount of screen time in the Bible, our world would be a lot better place to live in.

These are different times, no doubt. But, let’s try a different approach to using your time wisely. Every time you’re tempted to see what’s happening on Facebook, turn on some worship music; read a devotion, write a letter to a friend; call someone you haven’t seen in awhile.

Let’s do Bible time and see the statistics slide in God’s favor. Give your time to God. He promises to make your screen time a thing of the past.

James 4:4 - “You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”

Renew your promises.

I’ve heard of people who renew their wedding vows, years after their wedding day. This is a visible reminder to each other and to others that they are committed, still.

We can make promises to our kids, family or friends with good intentions. But, what happens if we break a promise? First of all, a trust is broken. A once intentional vow to another has been shattered, ripped apart.

It’s hard to get back the trust from a severed promise, but it’s possible.

As a Christian, we don’t have to worry about God giving promises that He doesn’t intend to keep. He’s been proven trustworthy, time and time again. Promises from God communicate to us His power, and help us sustain our faith in Him. God’s promises cannot be broken.

Why not trust God with your life? He’s promised an everlasting home in eternity for those who believe in His son, Jesus.

If you’ve fallen away from your faith, climb back up and trust in God. Renew your life today with the Promise Keeper.

Philippians 4:19 - “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
