Sunday, February 24 - Light to the nations
As a Christian, we are to be the light of the world. This doesn’t just mean those of us who are blessed enough to go on a mission trip. It’s to us at home, on the job, in our community.
John 8:12 - “Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life."
We started out day 2 with a devotion and breakfast. Everyone involved in a mission trip is an intricate part of the mission. This means from the cook, the servers, the local volunteers helping out and the guys who stood by just moving people through the lines.
As we walked to the school, we passed by roosters and chickens milling around on the streets. We passed dogs walking along with us. And as we approached the school, we were met with another long line of people, waiting to go in.
Some women came into the eyeglass clinic with their babies gathered in a sheet, wrapped around the mom’s body, the baby sleeping peacefully.
I used to think that in order to be a light to the world, to be representing Jesus to others, that I would have to quote scripture or something to that nature. But, I found that being a light to the world, or just being a light to others around you, just requires a smile or a hug.
Give someone a smile today. It doesn’t cost you anything and it may even bless your heart.
